Category C (Class 2) HGV Training

The Category C (Class 2) licence allows you to drive rigid HGVs up to 32 tonnes and is aimed primarily at those looking to enter the haulage industry as a professional driver. This qualification is often the first major step into full-time HGV work and is in high demand across logistics, distribution, and transport sectors.

What do I need to get my Category C licence?

Before you can take your Category C practical test, you’ll need to complete the following:

DVLA medical to apply for your provisional Category C entitlement
Theory testing, including both the multiple-choice and hazard perception tests
Driver CPC – Required if you intend to work as a professional HGV driver. The Driver CPC is gained by completing:
- CPC Case Studies
- CPC Module 4 Practical Demonstration

Course duration

This course is delivered over 3 days, with practical training followed by the driving test on day three. The course is designed to steadily build confidence in handling larger vehicles, road positioning, and professional driving standards.
